4 new spots open for the "Into the Everglades" photo workshop!

We have had so many people interested in the "Into the Everglades" photo workshop that we have added another instructor! Jim Caldwell will be our second instructor for this amazing workshop on March 26-28, 2010. Jim has been photographing our natural world for many, many years and has a great passion for the Everglades. We will still maintain the 6 to 1 student to instructor ratio. The two groups will be separate for the tours and together for the classroom sessions so you will have the advantage of both instructors' knowledge!

This is going to be a very unique photography adventure and workshop in the Everglades, not just walking well traveled trails or sightseeing from the side of the road, but kayaking (no experience necessary), boating, and hiking off the beaten path. You will be deep in the Everglades where most people never go, and get photos that most people never get!

ICF Pro-Tour for Nature Photographers, One Spot Open

We just got word from John Martin with the Images For Conservation Fund that there is a spot open for a photographer in their forthcoming 2010 Pro-tour. This competition draws photographers from around the world, and is extremely competitive and challenging. Photographers are individually paired with a Texas ranch where they live for a month photographing the wildlife and scenery on the ranch. At the end of the competition, each photographer submits a portfolio of images covering five categories of wildlife and scenery, which are then scored by a panel of judges whom are all noted photographers in their own right. Top portfolios win the photographer and their ranch cash prizes based on how they placed in the overall scoring.

If you are interested in taking part in this competition, please contact John Martin at (956) 381-1264 or visit the Images for Conservation Entry Forms and Rules page for details and applications.

Note from Jason Hahn, OPW Instructor: I was invited to compete in 2008, and in 30 days I captured over 14,000 images and observed dozens of species, many rare and endangered. Being on the pro-tour has to be one of the greatest experiences in my photography endeavors so far. Having never done anything quite like this before, I did loads of research, brought tons of gear (including a kayak which I found was not much use in very dry Duval County!), and tried to prepare for every possibility. I was very fortunate to be hosted by a generous family who were full of hospitality, on an incredible ranch that was full of wildlife. Overall I placed fourth in the competition, with seven of my images placing in the top 100 (the top 20 in each of the 5 categories) and was the highest placing first-time competitor in the competition. Overall this was a very challenging experience that made me come away from it a better photographer. While it was hard to be away from home, it was an experience I will never forget!

Just Added - Grizzlies and the Alaskan Wilderness Photography Workshop

Join Outdoor Photo Workshops on an adventure to Alaska where we will photograph the legendary Alaskan Brown Bear at the height of the salmon spawning season. Our workshop will be hosted by Redoubt Mountain Lodge, an exclusive retreat tucked deep into the heart of Lake Clark National Park that provides unparalleled access to the Alaskan wilderness and its wildlife.

Each day will be packed with photography opportunities as we explore in and around the waters of Crescent Lake. We'll photograph the bears as they hunt the spawning salmon, plus we will take the opportunity to hike the trails in the area to observe and photograph wildflowers (which will be at their peak bloom), the nearby mountain ranges including Mt. Redoubt, and the huge variety of scenery and other wildlife the region has to offer.

We'll stay in Redoubt's private log cabins overlooking Crescent Lake where we will be treated to comfortable lodging with beautiful views and great food. This is the only lodge and privately owned property within a 25-mile radius and this workshop offers an incredible opportunity to explore the Alaskan wilderness and photograph wildlife and scenery rarely seen by others. Join us for this one of a kind Alaskan adventure!
